The Warrant
GENRE: Thriller. Action-Adventure. War.
SUMMARY: Buck Williamson, a former SEAL turned CIA analyst, pens an operation to eliminate a powerful terrorist manufacturing chemical weapons. But the OP is compromised when the CIA sidesteps oversight to spy on Solomon Kelly, a U.S. citizen and New York Times journalist who won a Pulitzer for his interview with an Iranian terrorist leader.
The plan is to recruit Kelly, help him get an interview with the target, then Buck (who resembles Kelly and is played by the same actor), will step-in for him and take military action. But it all goes horribly wrong when Kelly pursues his own agenda and triggers a series of unanticipated events with grave consequences.
"The Warrant” is loaded with genre defining moments, plot twists, and breath-taking action sequences. It is also a compelling story about the relationship between two characters drawn in great depth, whose back-stories drive their decisions and propel them to test the limits of their own moral choices -- choices that create political and moral dilemmas for the leaders governing our intelligence agencies.
The cycles of violence dramatized in the script create conflict between countries, religious groups, and within individual minds. Ultimately, “The Warrant” is about "the things we carry," and the cost of their burden.
